I am running for DC Council, and I need you with me.

Updated: Sep 30, 2021

Dear Neighbor,

I am Zachary Parker, and I am excited to announce my candidacy for the Ward 5 DC Council seat.

It has been an honor to represent Ward 5 on the DC State Board of Education, where I now serve as president. Together, we have reestablished Ward 5’s place in citywide education policy debates and stood up an organization to raise money for our community’s schools. We distributed over 1,000 meals to seniors, won big fights to renovate the old Crummell School and Spingarn High School, and knocked on over 3,000 doors to help neighbors get vaccinated and take advantage of rental assistance.

My time on the State Board has made clear to me how the struggles of Ward 5 schools are not limited to education policy — families are struggling to connect to government resources, protect their loved ones, and meet their basic needs. I am running for DC Council to fight for a Ward 5 where we all have what we need to thrive in healthy communities. Together, we can make investments where they are most needed: deeply affordable housing, quality schools, jobs of the future, and a holistic approach to violence reduction. We can root out corruption, cut wasteful spending, and shape a livable and healthy future.

This campaign is an invitation to build a government that works for the people. We refuse to take corporate cash by participating in DC’s Fair Elections Program, where all contributions from DC residents are matched – your donation of up to $50 can become $250. I am humbly asking for your support, and ultimately your vote, on this journey.
