ICYMI: Zachary Parker For Ward 5 Builds Momentum

Washington, DC (February 18, 2021) - Team Zachary Parker, working to elect the Ward 5 Board of Education representative to DC Council, is on a roll this week with back-to-back endorsements. On Wednesday, the campaign secured the endorsement of environmental justice pioneer and president of the Institute for Sustainable Communities, Deeohn Ferris, a Ward 5 resident.

"Zachary knows that those who are closest to the problems hold the knowledge and expertise to lead the solutions. His servant-leadership is exactly what Ward 5 needs to thrive," said Ferris.

Also on Wednesday, Zachary was endorsed by Run for Something (RFS), an organization that supports young voices in running for state and local leadership.

“We’re focused on continuing the fight to defend democracy and elect more young progressives,” said RFS co-founder Amanda Litman. “February’s endorsement class is dedicated to making meaningful change in their communities and advancing progressive ideals and equity across the country.”

Run for Something’s February 2022 class of 119 candidates include:

  • 39 who are alumni and are running for something again

  • 64% identify as people of color

  • 28% identify as LGBTQIA

  • 55% identify as women

  • Represent 31 states

With the growing momentum the campaign has published a revamped endorsements page that also includes endorsements from DC Attorney General Karl Racine, DC for Democracy, Metro DC DSA, and Sunrise Movement DC. As the only current ward wide elected official in this race, the breadth of support is a testament to the work Zachary has done over the last 4 years on the DC State Board of Education.
